The autoethnography process was not as hard as i expected. I thought that a ten page paper required a lot of work and it did but just not as much as i thought. it went smoothly i think because i talked about myself the whole time and was interested in the paper. i got help from my mom as well when i wrote it because she checked over it once i was done with it. this was by far the most work in one paper i have done all year. however, it was work that i enjoyed and it didnt seem like a task as most of the other papers were throughout the year. i also learned a little more abou t myself throuogh writing the autoethnography. the reason why is because saying or thinking about stuff doesnt alwatys put it in your head to much. but when i write things down it makes me think more into it. this is the sole reason of how i learned from myself through writing this paper.

I thought the first five pages of this paper went smoothly. It is nowhere near its final stages but I can accept that right now. The things I need to work on throughout the first five pages are narrowing down my blog entry examples and picking out parts of them that relate to the sense. I also want to include myself more in my writing considering this paper is suppose to be all about me

For the next five pages I plan on doing around the same thing. The only difference is that im going to try to conclude my autoethnography instead of introducing it. I plan on having examples of my blogs/essays that relate to the sense that I am talking about. I want to keep my style of the paper through talking a lot about me then I have before. I also want include more examples from my past that I have not yet talked about on a blog or an essay.

I plan on this autoethnography is to compose a series of my writing that I have done throughout this semester. I want to do that but also explain why I wrote about them and what they mean to me. In the process I plan on evaluating my writing starting from my very first essay till my last one. There has been many changes throughout the beginning of the semester till now. Im going to explain those differences and whether or not they are good or bad. Also, I want to incorporate some new stories from the past and write about them as well to help describe me. Formatting as of right now is going to be by the sense.

The first place I wouls publish is the journal of culture and society. The website is http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/page/Signs/brief.html. The reason why is because our autoethnography has a lot to do with culture. So I figured what better place then this if it deals with culture.

The next place I would choose to publish is www.publish.com. The reason why I would choose this place is because it has a very large variety of publications. It does not narrow all the publications down to one field like my first option does. Instead it gets a lot of reads through variety which I think is key. In order to publish go to the website and follow the directions for publishing.

The next place I would publish is IUP’s freshman reader. I heard a man talk about it at the end of mondays class and it sounded really good. It needs to be chosen out of other essays but if it is it is put in the freshman reader. It goes out to all freshman to read and is really nice to be a part of if possible. In order to do this you need to submit your essay into this commitee and have them evaluate it. Then if its good enough they will put it in.

2. It is experience from a first person point of view. Autoethnography is a form of this. It can range from experiences that deal with thoughts, emotions, desire, and bodily awareness.

3. I chose my template because it was green and that is my favorite color. I also chose that one because it gives me a sense of organization so that I feel my papers are organized well in my blog.

4. I put my wordpress links because it is easy to get to that page with a link. If i had to chose another one I would probably put facebook.

5. I dont have a picture in my about page because I tried multiple times and it just never showed up on my page after entering it in. I

6. My audience is my classmates and teacher. I include my favorite activities, where I am from, what year I am at college, and whats sports I play. I also stated that I love all Pittsburgh teams equally.

7. I do still agree with everything I wrote in my first what is I responce. I do believe that I am a different person now then when I typed that up but nothing that I wrote I think I would change.

She had many strong points throughout the paper. I thought the use of the exclamation marks were perfect for each sentence she used them. It gave the reader the sense that they were actually reading a journal. I also liked her pre writing goals a lot. She gave reasons for why she picked her topic, stated what her paper is going to be about, what genre it is, and took into consideration that I am a guy reading a girls diary. I think the fact that she recognized that made her paper more interesting. In addition to that the flow of the paper was smooth and I did not have trouble reading it at all.

This paper did not need much editing but the approach I took was simple. I wanted to help out with as many grammatical mistakes as I could find which wasn’t many at all. I also wanted to give some positive feedback along with some constructive feedback as well. The only suggestion of mine is to maybe give a little more background on the girl so the author can get a better sense of who she is. This paper was interesting and an easy read. I think Lauren did an excellent job of writing this diary.

Everyone has their share of favorite music and I’m no exception. Throughout my nineteen years on earth I have developed plenty of love for all kinds of music. Not only is music something that people all around the world listen to for pleasure, but for other reasons as well. Some may include making a better workout, a mood changer, or something as simple as helping people fall asleep. My favorite music helps me accomplish any of the above tasks. In this paper I am going to describe my favorite music while providing reasons of why they are my favorites as well.

One of my favorite genres of music is rock. The reason why is because I love the reasons of why it was played along with artists pure talent of the era. This genre kicks ass because it sparked revolution in that time and pretty much put rock on the map forever. It was the music of the baby boomers and the hippies. At the time when this style first came out it is what separated parents from the kids in the sense that people were not going to jam to Frank Sinatra anymore, but instead Jimmy Hendrix. There are plenty of artists and albums I would like to address in order to give the true taste of rock.

Coyne 2

Led Zeppelin has at least two songs on my top twenty five most often played songs on my iPod, and that’s saying a lot. Although I cannot pick my absolute most favorite song I can throw out some hits. The song Tangerine is awesome. What made this song great was the movie Almost Famous. When I heard that song it fit the situation in the movie perfectly, and I have loved it ever since. Also, the song Kashmir that came out in 1975 displays how great this band actually is (Rock List Music). I like this song mainly due to the guitar solo parts. Jimmy Page works miracles with his guitar and in this song shows fans why he is to be considered one of the best guitar players ever. Kashmir has a more dominating tune to it that is actually kind of intimidating. So intimidating that Puff Daddy used this song for his hit Godzilla remix when the movie came out. An artist knows he is the man when people thirty years later use your tune for their own hit single. I listen to Led Zeppelin a lot partly because I know that band smoked a lot of weed, and I love people that stand up for marijuana. I also listen to them a lot because I know the majority of people that listened to them smoked pot and I most definitely would have done the same thing back in the 70’s.

Moving on from Zeppelin, another one of my favorite bands is Pink Floyd. Now if people think Led Zeppelin stood up for drugs then I am not sure what they would say about Pink Floyd. Known for their slow calming style of music they made it big. I cannot think of another band I would rather listen to when I am smoking a blunt. Their music just makes the listeners want to step away from reality and take a few minutes to relax and enjoy the song. The album The Dark Side of the Moon is probably their most famous for a reason. It was almost meant for people that did any kind of drug. When people trip on whatever drug the music of Pink Floyd seems to amaze just as any song would while tripping, but not to the same degree. The fact that

Coyne 3

this drug appealed to hippies of the 70’s sky rocketed album sales along with their reputation as of the best band to hit America.

Taking a step away from the 70’s the Dave Matthews Band is one of the most popular band groups in the U.S. Their close to the top as one of my favorite bands for many reasons. I have been alive to see them perform, and thank God because they throw one of the best shows people are able to see now a days. I go the concert every summer for both nights with friends and family to get drunk, and listen to the unique sound of DMB. The band incorporates a violinist by the name of Boyd Tinsley which helps give the band its unique sound along with recently deceased saxophonist LeRoi Moore (The Band). These two instruments help produce a sound when played live will sink right to the middle of yourself. Another reason I love their live shows is because they are somewhat of a jam band which makes their shows real easy to dance/sing and “jam” to. I love this band because of these live performances, but also because they help out with a lot of charities while being able to be a good role model for kids.

If the reader hasn’t noticed yet that pot influences my music then this artist will surely send the signal. Tom Petty has been around for it seems centuries but is still kicking while pumping out excellent CD’s and shows. I love Petty because he can shred on the guitar and his songs are extremely catchy to me. The song Running Down a Dream which came out in 1989 displays his talent on the guitar perfectly (lyrics.com). He also throws an excellent show even at his age. I have seen him rock and age is most definitely not a factor. His shows are constantly sold out and have a unique atmosphere as well. Maybe it’s because everyone at the show is smoking pot, but also because his style of music applies to people of all ages. He is one of the

Coyne 4

few guys that I could actually sing along with my mom in the car. Once again I love the fact he stands up for marijuana and that he smokes it routinely. The songs Last Dance with Maryjane and Roll Another Joint sum up his views pretty well on the pot topic. Not to mention these are two of his biggest hits. I hope he records till the day he dies because he has a knack for awesome songs.

Although these bands and songs do not consist of all my favorites, they sure make up for a good portion of them. Without these samples of music I don’t know what I would do if I needed to chill out or relax. It helps with countless things in my life and lives of many others too. I suggest that everyone should listen to some kind of music so that it affects their life the same way it affects mine. The affects do not have to be influencing smoking marijuana but absolutely anything to better ones life.

This song can say a lot about Marlen. I can see him sitting in his house very comfortably trying to write something. This song also displays a more

The second song is the kinda song Marlen sings on the way back to his house from school. Its the kinda song he blasts when there is no one else in the car and sings when no one else is in the car but would stop singing it if someone saw him in the middle of it. Either that or its a shower song that he likes to sing while getting his clean on. I

Andys first songs I thought portrayed him pretty well because he likes to dance and it was a techno song with a sick guitar solo. I can see him rockin the air guitar hard to this song. His second song was milk and cereal so obviously he enjoys his morning eats.

I think there is a difference between hearing listening. Hearing is something I believe just happens to go into your ear and you hear it. Listening is when you chooose to listen to a cerain sound and think about it as well. When you listen your are hearing with a purpose instead of it just coming into your ear and not having to think about it. I think the word active listening differenciates hearing from listening pretty well. All it means is that you listen but your trying to find out what is making the sound, what feelings come from that sound, or who else is listening to this as well, etc? Although they both involve the ear and the same sense there is somewhat of a difference between the two.

Sound surrounds us and everything we do. Im glad I am able to hear all the things in the world. I have my ear drums to thank for that (Sense of Hearing). I can not imagine what it would be like to not have the sense of hearing. It would take away from anything and everything. Im not sure I would be able to think of the things I would miss now because I still have that sense but I know for sure some things I would miss.

For one I would miss the sounds of 65 thousand Steeler fans going nuts after a touchdown and the sensation of sound waves tickling the hairs inside my ear giving me the sound sensation (about.com). Or I would miss hearing the talents of Dave Matthews Band live. Another major thing that I can think of missing would be the sound of nothingness in the middle of nowhere. There is a sound that exists for being out say in the middle of the woods and I love it

Their are also things that not only I enjor hearing but need hearing for. Communication is based on our ears (The Hearing Process). If it wasnt for them then its all sign language and I dont want to take the time to learn it. Who does when hearing comes naturally. Overall im glad I got the sense of hearing in my arsenal.
